What The Whip is.
Cross-DAO governance and DeFi risk intelligence. Source data is pulled from on-chain governance contracts, Snapshot, Tally, and treasury movements via Alchemy.¹ Each issue presents findings supported by data.
What we do.
Our services come without strings attached. We are independent and do not accept ads or sponsorships.
01
Translation
Most contested governance is technical. Gauge fights, parameter tweaks, treasury allocations. We turn each one into a five-minute read for delegates who do not have time to learn the mechanics.
02
Address attribution
We work backwards from voting patterns to specific wallets, then cross-reference public disclosures (BIP texts, Etherscan tags, ENS) to name the actors. Issue 001 named three of six Humpy wallets this way.
03
Vote-treasury correlation
We connect on-chain treasury movements to votes. When a wallet receives 50,000 tokens then immediately votes against a proposal, we surface it. Forensic-grade signal nobody else publishes.
04
Cross-DAO bloc detection
Coordinated voting across multiple DAOs. If the same addresses oppose proposals in Aave, Balancer, and Compound, the pattern surfaces. Single-DAO dashboards cannot see this.
05
No conflicts
No ads. No protocol sponsorships. Operator is pseudonymous. The Whip can credibly publish "this DAO has a capture problem" without anyone wondering whether it is a paid hit piece.
14 DAOs across 3 chains.
Snapshot signaling. On-chain governance. Treasury movements.

What DAO governance forums discuss

FORUM THREADS ANALYZED:60 active in 9 DAOs (last 30 days)
LARGEST CATEGORY:delegate intros (38%)
GAUGE % OF FORUM ACTIVITY:0.0%
GAUGE % OF CONTESTED BAND:25.6%
PARAMETER % OF FORUM ACTIVITY:1.7%
CONCLUSION:forum activity does not predict contested votes

Issue 002 found that gauge and parameter proposals dominate the contested band. We then asked whether they also dominate forum discussion. They do not. Across 60 active forum threads in 9 DAOs, the technical specialist topics that produce close votes are nearly absent (gauge 0%, parameter 1.7%). Forum activity is dominated by delegate intros, incident response, and Lido staking infrastructure. The proposals that move the most money have the quietest forum threads.
